| Kuaska’s review Although an atypical weizen, the original and greatly-appreciated Domm has all peculiarities of a Bavarian weizen (ripe banana and cloves in the nose and citric notes in the mouth). Appearance is that of an unusual cloudy orange color, darker than a typical weizen. Nose of ripe banana (hisoamyl acetate) is clear but never aggressive or intrusive while cloves and medicinal notes (phenolics) are slightly below the average. Light scent of fresh yeast with lovely ‘breadcrust’ and atypical fresh hop aroma, stronger in the high nasal septum. The taste at the top of the tongue first catches light ripe banana soon contrasted by citric notes leaving large space to an unusual wedding between syrupy fruity tastes and an engaging dryness. Citrus fruit (bitter orange) notes are well present together with cedar notes. The finish is herbaceous and is not as bitter as suggested by the nose. |
Andem al Domm? In milanese ‘Shall we go to the Duomo?’. The word is derived from the Latin Domus, for house. Here it means an exceptional house, the house of God. The term is also linked to the fact that the first Christians of ancient Rome met and celebrated the Eucharist in private homes in order not to be observed. When the Emperor Constantine allowed them to meet publicly, they built ‘houses’ specially for the assembly of Christians. The most important of these retained the name Duomo, as that of the most important. |
